ABOUT ME
A BIT
PERFORMANCE
I've played guitar for over 20 years. I spent many years playing in bands while growing up. We'd play covers and originals; from four-hour sets in Indianapolis, IN to playing midnight shows at The Saxon Pub in Austin, TX. We gigged everything from bars and clubs to haunted houses and county fairs. We recorded studio albums, sold merchandise, and even found a little radio airplay.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I actually began teaching gymnastics and parkour to kids and teens, and spent many years at it. I then began teaching music while living in Taiwan, where I spent three years as an ESL teacher. I found music lessons as way for students to practice their English abilities in context, while also learning something new.
When I got back to the US, I continued to advertise privately, and then worked teaching one-on-ones and band rehearsals at
School of Rock Del Mar, near San Diego.
I have taught music to people as young as six,
all the way through to older adults. I think any age is a great age to start!
MORE EXPERIENCE
While guitar has been my primary instrument the longest, I have played others (bass, mandolin, Turkish saz, piano, drums) for various timeframes. I started studying music theory with my guitar teacher in my second year of lessons. From there, I took Theory and Composition courses in both high school and college.
I now produce music from my home studio through Logic Pro X. I create beats and rap, study jazz, love Neosoul and RnB, learn exotic instruments, scales, and rhythms, love technical music such as prog and math rock, and have my favorite classical composers (guitar and orchestral). My interest spans a wide range and I'd love to impart that to my students. All music has something that can be gained from it.
My Home Studio Space
I have a great studio space for immersing a student in the world of music. All books, visual aids, and instruments are easily accessible to enable learning.
